Job Overview

As the Director of Communications and Public Relations, you will be the primary liaison between our company and the media, representing us in both positive and challenging situations. Your responsibilities include crafting company messaging, engaging with media outlets, and developing digital media stories to promote our mission and initiatives. Additionally, you'll collaborate with various teams to create engaging content, provide media training to executives, and ensure compliance with regulations and policies. Your role is crucial in shaping our corporate image and maintaining transparency with stakeholders.

This person would report to the Chief Legal Officer and ideally be based out of Gainesville, Florida or American Fork, Utah.

 

Must be able to report to the Gainesville, FL office once a month.

  • Compensation range from $110,000 - $130,000 per year with total compensation ranging from $150,000 - $185,000.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as Director – Communications/Public Relations and 24/7 media liaison and spokesperson in both positive and adverse media situations.
  • Provides communications and public relations advice and counsel; develops company messaging and internal support resources in securing reputation-building tradition.
  • Develops digital media stories promoting our mission and company story and daily work serving people with disabilities, as well as ESG and other initiatives.
  • Partners with appropriate resources to create engaging content including researching and writing support materials for company business lines, products and services.
  • Engages with media outlets and develops publicity opportunities.
  • Conducts formal and ad hoc media and financial and industry press training for executives and other subject matter experts.
  • Develops messaging and talking points for media interviews, participates in and monitors interviews conducted with our approved subject matter experts and corporate leaders.
  • Creates media monitoring results, including working with marketing, to develop brand impressions, SEO content and overall corporate positioning.
  • Ensures external communications are in compliance with disclosure regulations, company policies and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future.
  • BS/MS degree in business administration or related field or related experience.
  • 15 - 20 years of professional corporate communications experience with large scale companies, preferably with experience in medical and/or disability services.
  • Demonstrated experience in complex enterprises (publicly traded companies or billion dollar privately held organizations) in both proactive media outreach and in responsive and highly visible media situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex issues clearly and persuasively, including editing and proofreading skills and expertise in developing publicity tools: press releases, talking points, feature articles, press kits, multimedia and graphical instruments, etc.
  • Broad network of press contacts in the medical, disability and/or technology spaces.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and legal issues surrounding the medical and disability areas, as well as structured communications disclosure.
  • Must have a solid command of Microsoft Office programs and common digital media distribution and analytical tools.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints and to provide timely advice; demonstrated discretion and good judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of an organization and to the outside world.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Strong verbal/written communication abilities; effective interpersonal skills; attention to detail.
  • Active team player with the ability to interact with and influence others effectively.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
  • Work with external vendors and freelancers based on company and/or project needs.
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing, Sales, IT, Executive, Legal and Financial teams and exhibit emotional intelligence as a team player.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with related software and databases.
